Temperatures to climb into 50s

Break out the sunglasses – February is starting out with sunny skies and warmer-than-average temperatures, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We are anticipating a mild afternoon,” Schack said. “Our temperatures are making a nice jump into the mid 50s.”

At 2:50 p.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 53 degrees, the humidity was 45 percent and winds were variable at 6 mph, making the windchill 51 degrees. The average morning low for this date is 23 degrees. The record low was minus 12, set in 1917.

This afternoon’s high temperature will reach 55 degrees, with mostly sunny skies, she said. Winds will be from the northwest at 3 to 8 mph, she said. The average high for this date is 41 degrees. The record high was 72 degrees, set in 1911.

Tonight’s skies will be partly cloudy, with the low temperature dropping to 33 degrees by early Thursday morning, Schack said.

Thursday’s high temperature will be 59 degrees, she said.

Mostly cloudy conditions are moving in on Friday, with the morning low starting at 31 degrees, climbing to a high of 49 on Friday afternoon, she said.
