Extended deer season to begin Monday

Firearms extended whitetail antlerless deer season in Kansas will begin Monday and end a week from today.

Many hunters who did not fill a deer permit or antlerless-only game tag during one of the regular seasons (muzzleloader, archery, firearms) may use that permit during this season.

However, all permits revert to antlerless only.

Hunters should understand that while unfilled permits and game tags may carry over into the January season, they are valid only in the unit or units listed on the permit or game tag.

During this week’s season, units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 17 and 18 are closed to all deer hunting.

Those units are all in Western Kansas.

For those who have not purchased a permit but would like to hunt this week, permits may be purchased through Saturday.

Hunters are no longer required to purchase an antlered permit.

Antlerless-only game tags are valid only on private land or Walk-In Hunting areas.

These rules are clarified in the Kansas Hunting and Furharvesting Regulations, available wherever licenses are sold or at www.kdwp.state.ks.us.
