Amanda Howard, Lawrence, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Kansas Wesleyan University for the fall 2006 semester. She had a semester grade point average of 3.25-3.74.

Alison Hall, a teacher at Ottawa High School, is one of 32 first-year educators in Kansas to receive the 2007 Kansas Horizon Award sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education. The program recognizes exemplary first-year teachers.

Recipients of the award will attend a two-day conference in February and be formally honored during a ceremony Feb. 23.

Hall is a 2005 graduate of Ottawa University.

Mansoor and Samina Khalid, De Soto, announce the birth of their daughter, Fatima Nur Khalid, on Dec. 13, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Her siblings are Zanab, 10, and Taha, 3. Her maternal grandparents are Mohammad Tahir Khan and Tasneem Akhtar, Pakistan. Paternal grandparents are Muhammad Khalid Saleem and Ismat Ara, Saudi Arabia.

Tom Ashe and Brian Houle, students at Lawrence High School, created a poster to celebrate Teen Read week that was published in the December issue of American Libraries, the magazine of the American Library Association. More than 3,000 libraries nationwide celebrated Teen Read week from Oct. 15-21, and the LHS Library celebrated by displaying posters.

Renae Saathoff, Lawrence, has been named to the Dean’s List at AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, for the 2006 fall term. Saathoff had a grade -point average between 3.50 and 3.79 for 12 or more consecutive credit hours.

Saathoff is a graduate of Lawrence High School.
