Veritas boys fall in tourney

? Veritas Christian couldn’t overcome a 30-rebound deficit in a 67-56 high school boys basketball loss to Worth County (Mo.) on Tuesday in the West Nodaway Holiday Tournament.

Micah Barclay scored 22 points, Josh Masrud scored 16, and Isaiah Dover added eight to lead Veritas.

But Worth County held a 46-16 rebound advantage.

“We just got killed on the boards,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “They had way too many second and third chances to score. We don’t have a great amount of size, but we’ve got to cut that margin down.”

Worth County hit 18 of 31 free throws, while Veritas made 11 of 13 from the line.

“We played better than we did the day before,” Bennett said.

Veritas (1-6) will play at 11:30 a.m. today as the tournament continues.
