? Micah Barclay scored 10 points as the Veritas Christian boys basketball team suffered a 49-35 loss to Albany, Mo., in a first-round game at the West Nodaway Holiday Tournament.

Taylor Zook had eight points and Jerimiah Johnson seven for Veritas (1-5), which meets Worth, Mo., at 10:30 a.m. today in the second round.

“It was a three-point game at halftime,” said Veritas coach Doug Bennett. “We talked about how important the first three minutes would be to set the tone in the second half. Unfortunately, they went on a run. We had two to three turnovers early, and they converted. That was a crucial time that hurt us.

“We’ll try to keep their heads up. We know we have a lot of work to do as a team, and hopefully we’ll improve in the second round.”
