Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 26, 1906: “While many were endeavoring yesterday to care for the deserving poor of our city, there was a party of people here which was really suffering at Christmas. This party is composed of Mexicans who are in the employ of the Santa Fe Railroad. They are hungry, need decent clothing and have poor shelter. Word is the Salvation Army and Catholic Church are making efforts to help, and such is desperately needed in a season when so many of the rest of us have so much while they have so little.”
