Old Home Town – 25 years ago
The glow of candles in windows, like yellow ribbons the year before, were a reminder that world peace remained an elusive goal and that tensions and prospects for war had not eased much in calendar 1981. Many Americans on Christmas Eve had lighted “beacons of solidarity” in sympathy with the people of Poland who were currently under the bootheel of martial law, with the threat of civil war growing by the day.
