Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 25, 1906: “The police last night gave Lawrence a splendid Christmas gift by raiding a joint. The one the officers wiped out was the one run by John McDonald at King’s Hotel on Vermont Street. The raid was a quiet but effective affair, appropriate with Christmas Eve. : It is a great Christmas Day as people gather, the Salvation Army feeds the needy and the final rush is over. Tomorrow, the stores will do great business but today there is a welcome quiet.”
