Poet’s Showcase

Reasons to Celebrate an Early Yugoslavian Spring Day

Peppered snow, wine-

stained teeth smoking

in vacant lots

overlooking streams,

Portobello breath

visibly mixing

with peacock tobacco,

missing horizons,

the tie between

the strands, the refusal

to freeze throughout

an ovular winter, slop

off the wheels

of salt-rotted cars,

the bridge above the canal.
