Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 21, 1906: “The schedule has been made for the KU basketball team and the team has some hard games to play this season, according to manager Lansdon. The first game will be Jan. 23 against Washburn. The local team seems to be forming fast. : There has been a growing clatter of hoofs and jingling of bells as Santa Claus has been making his rounds of local stores. He is being well-received, particularly by children who hope he is buying everything they want for Christmas Day. : ‘I’m going to have a lot of money left after buying presents this year and I may use the surplus to invest in land somewhere,’ Santa Claus jokingly told one reporter during one of his visits here. ‘I imagine I could find a lot of people willing to sell at a time when business is good and prices are high.’ : The Salvation Army of Lawrence again will do all in its power to bring as much joy as possible to the needy of Lawrence, particularly the children. Money has been raised and plans made and the prospects are good for many to benefit.
