Trial postponed in beating death

A trial has been postponed until March 12 for a Lawrence man charged with fatally beating his girlfriend this summer at a mobile-home park in southern Lawrence.

Christopher Belone originally had a trial set for Feb. 26 in the death of 37-year-old Linda Begay following a beating at Gaslight Village, 1900 W. 31st St.

During a hearing Monday in Douglas County District Court, Belone asked to have a new court-appointed attorney to replace Greg Robinson. But Judge Jack Murphy denied his request, saying he had “a lot of respect” for Robinson and that Robinson appeared to be fulfilling his duties in the case.

The request was not the reason for the postponement.
