Lone senior lifts Kaws

Haster notches 16 in 49-34 victory

? Perry-Lecompton High (2-3) has one senior, and he came came to play Tuesday.

Brian Haster led all scorers with 16 points in the Kaws’ 49-34 boys basketball victory against Silver Lake.

“He played the best game we’ve seen him play,” Perry coach Pat Hupfauf said.

Kyle Morgison added 10, hitting five of his six attempts from the free-throw line. Austin Abbott led Silver Lake with 14.

The home team started the game strong and took a 25-12 halftime lead.

Perry-Lecompton plays host to Mill Valley Jan. 3 for its next game.

Eudora – Powered by a 13-point swing in the second quarter, Gardner defeated Eudora.

Eudora led 12-11 after the first quarter, but Gardner outscored the Cardinals 19-6 to take a 30-18 halftime lead.

Eudora, however, received 12 points from Matthew Abel, eight from Kelson Boyer and seven from Todd Roberts.

The Cardinals (3-3) will visit De Soto High for their next game Jan. 5.

De Soto – To keep its perfect season alive, Tonganoxie jumped to a 43-26 halftime lead against De Soto.

Tonganoxie improved to 5-0, while De Soto fell to 1-4. Jeff Hughes scored 13 points for the Chieftains.

De Soto will play host to Eudora in its next game Jan. 2, while Tonganoxie will play a home game against Bonner Springs on Jan. 5

Osage City – During a hard-fought defensive struggle, Colin Wright paced Wellsville with 20 points.

Scott Samsel and Zack Wright scored 11 and eight points, respectively, for Wellsville. The visiting team evened its record at 3-3 with stifling defense, limiting Osage to four first-quarter points.

Wellsville will play its next game at Baldwin on Jan. 5.

De Soto – Tonganoxie (5-0) took a commanding 32-10 halftime lead Tuesday night against De Soto (3-2) and never looked back.

“We just played really poorly in the first,” De Soto coach Dwight Spencer said. “We played better in the second, but it was too little too late.”

De Soto will play host to Eudora in its next game Jan. 5. Tonganoxie will play host to Bonner Springs on the same date.

Shawnee – Paola easily defeated Mill Valley.

“Paola is a tremendous basketball team,” Mill Valley coach Diana Krull said. “They came out and played harder in the first two quarters.”

That showed up on the scoreboard as Paola took a 37-17 halftime lead.

Valley (2-2), which battled back to outscore Paola 17-12 in the fourth quarter, will take a break from basketball action during the holiday vacation.
