Old Hometown – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 18, 1906: “Sunday school teachers have noticed a sizable increase in the attendance of children for the past two or three Sundays. It is probable the children have suddenly become aware that they are neglecting their religious education, but it is also possible they are thinking of the good things that usually accompany the 25th of December. : The local Elks again are getting ready for their annual Christmas program for children and more than 500 are due to attend. Each child will leave with a present. : Carl Rouse has been elected captain of the Kansas University football team for 1907 and the choice is an excellent one. He for three years has been easily one of the best ends in the Missouri Valley, even though he has had to battle knee injuries. : The Commercial Club says there is a good chance Lawrence will get a factory to manufacture agricultural equipment, farm wagons, threshing machines and other iron products. The investment is due to exceed half a million dollars.”
