Two apparently separate but simultaneous accidents at the same Lawrence intersection sent at least two people to the hospital early Saturday - including one by helicopter ambulance.
Lawrence Police Sgt. Richard Nickell said officers were still gathering details on the two two-car accidents, which occurred shortly after midnight at 23rd and Harper streets.
One car had to be cut open by firefighters in order to extract a victim.
Brittany Stillian, 17, Eudora, said she was a driver in the second accident - waiting to turn left in the westbound lane of 23rd Street when it happened.
"I didn't see the first one," she said. "Completely unrelated - nothing to do with the first one."
Nickell said more details would be available at a later hour.

What's this girl from Eudora doing out at midnight in Lawrence driving around? Lord knows that everything happens at midnight. Let me guess she was coming back from the Lawrence public library where she was studying for finals.

gosh I hope the copter didn't wake up Sean Brumwell, he doesn't like it. Always ready to attack or blame youth or women, my you must have a nasty disposition. Maybe she was coming back from counseling an abused young woman of your acquaintance. You know how crabby ol guys are. Highway 10 is fast and furious at that intersection, I think it zooms from 70 to 35 in that stretch.

17 and driving at 1 AM means, as often as not, they had to close a fast food joint (or something similar).

NO you know AMericans won't do work like that. That is the work for illegal aliens. This girl therefore had defarious reasons for being out at that time.

Since she was heading west to begin with I doubt she was coming from any of the fast food places farther west than were she was waiting to make a turn coming from the east.

No kidding. Maybe she was finishing babysitting and heading home. Maybe there was a holiday party and she was headed home.
The accident was shortly after midnight on a Friday night.
Do none of you remember what it was like when you were teenagers??

What are you guys, the thought police? Anyway, it's a coincidence.
The odds can't be that slim, with the number of accidents—it was Friday night, there are more people out than a weeknight.

I guess she is over 16 and no longer a minor so I guess she is entitled to at least drive and no longer follow the minor curfew that the city has set. I dont even know if there is one anymore or even if they enforce it or what can be done about it. Probably just call your parents and have them come and pick you up or maybe just call your parents and notify them that you are out that late. See the city has about 101 things that they want to enforce but hardly ever do except the smoking ban of course. I dont personally care that she was out that late because I am sure she is a young responsible adult as we can see in the article but hopefully she is okay and not been seriously hurt.
