Boy Scouts in Troop 65 made their transition from summer to fall with a Court of Honor on Sept. 24 at Baldwin High School. Thirty-three Scouts were eligible for 106 awards.

Recent troop campouts included Camp Naish on June 18-24; high adventure in Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park on July 3-13; the Incompetence Campout at the Counts Property north of Baldwin City, July 21-22; the Washington Creek Muzzleloader’s Mountain Man Rendezvous at Lone Star Lake on Aug. 25-27; and City Lake cleanup, Sept. 8-10.

At the rendezvous, Scouts who placed in shooting muzzle-loading rifles were Trey Anderson, first; Royce Harrison, second; and Callan Anderson and Keenan Coffey, tied for third.

In other activities, adult leader David Simmons and Scout James Simmons joined Lawrence Boy Scout Troop 55 for the July 10-19 session at Camp H. Roe Bartle, Osceola, Mo. During the camp, James Simmons became a Foxman, a postulancy before entering the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, a camping honor society.

Scoutmaster John Richards and Assistant Scoutmaster Robert Lawrenz underwent Woodbadge training at Camp Naish, Bonner Springs, Sept. 15-17, and 29-30.

Troop 65 sent two adults and nine scouts to Order of the Arrow Fall Fellowship, Sept. 15 to 17 at Camp Naish. Troop 65 Scouts who gained positions during chapter elections were Logan Keener, chapter chief; Sam Richards, vice chief; and Colby Soden, secretary.

Cub Scouts in Pack 3462, chartered to Langston Hughes School, exceeded the group’s goal during the annual popcorn fundraiser. Scouts sold $13,030, topping the goal of $12,000, and were treated to ice cream sundaes.

Webelos I was the top-selling den and earned a pizza party. It sold about $4,635 of popcorn.

Overall winners include Matt Pribbenow, first place, who sold $1,812.55. He won a stereo with a CD player. Second-place winner was Steele Jacobs, who sold $774.56. He won an MP3 player. Other winners were Ethan Perrins, third, $604.78; Josh Waisner, fourth, $596; and Jon Saathoff, fifth, $594.43. Each received a remote-controlled Hummer toy.

Scouts who met their individual goals are Kyle Abrahamson, Nick Clancy, Max Denny, Ethan Perrins, Harrison Hughes, Sam Hambleton, Josh Waisner, Joseph Cary, Zach Denny, Christopher Toalson, Trey Pechal, Steele Jacobs, Trevor Hughes, John Kihm, Jon Saathoff, Matt Pribbenow, Tyler Darnall, Dakota Zinn and Vail Moshiri.

The fundraiser supports events such as the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, summer scout camps, all the awards the scouts earn each month, and others. The fundraisers’ popcorn kernel was Kathy Pribbenow.

Boy Scout troops in the Pelathe District held their second annual Iron Chef cookoff and mountain ball lock-in Dec. 1-2 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Scouts were involved in a Dutch oven cookoff, played mountain ball, threw tomahawks, and played various other games.

Troop 64 took first place in the cookoff. Troop 52 took second, and Troop 65, third. Mac Halpin won the Tomahawk competition.

Scouts in attendance were Doug Rawlings, Michael Smith, Alek Joyce, Andrew Denny, Gavin Spence and Dom Reiske of Troop 52; Kjell Mullenix, Johnathan Roberts and Jamie Braden of Troop 55; Connor Bradley, Colin Forsberg, Tom Stanley, Nathan Bradley, Lyle Howell, Andrew Briery, Devon Middleton and Jonathan Morrison of Troop 64; Royce Harrison, Stephen Beegle, Ben Foster and Mac Halpin of Troop 65.

Adult leaders were Harry Smith, John Scott, Glenn Jackson, Stephon Roberts, John Richards, Jacob Allen, Jim Morrison, Tim Middleton, Bryan Spence, Jim Joyce and Bruce Wagner, who organized the event.
