Kansans warned about ‘secret shopper’ scam
Attorney General Phill Kline warned Kansans on Friday about an alleged scam believed to lure victims through a classified ad seeking secret shoppers.
The company sends consumers responding to the ad a packet that includes a cashier’s check. Residents are instructed to cash the check and wire most of the money back to the company. A few days later consumers learn the check is bogus, and they owe their banks the money.
Kline said residents should be wary of anyone who sends them a check or money order that they don’t know personally.
To report a complaint, call the Consumer Protection Division at (800) 432-2310.
