From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 14, 1906: “Supt. Frank Smith is advocating the erection of a $30,000 to $40,000 Manual Training High School building in Lawrence. The goal is to give the boys and girls of the high school complete work in manual training, cooking, sewing, housekeeping and the like for girls and woodworking, ironworking, drawing and the like for boys. : The Indian appropriation bill approved today for the Indian Affairs group in Washington calls for an allowance of $163,000 for maintenance and repairs at Haskell Institute in Lawrence. Haskell people say it should be much more.”
