Wade Stinson, Kansas University athletics director, said a search was on to find a successor to Jack Mitchell as KU football coach. (Pepper Rodgers eventually was hired.) Mitchell was to get the rest of his current salary of $20,300 through June 30 of 1967, then was to get $14,000 a year for the following four years, for a total of $56,000. He said he intended to leave coaching and head up the Wellington Daily News.
