Army National Guard Spec. Kimberley D. Holland has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Holland’s studies included the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and she received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, military justice system and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Gary Klingenberg, Lawrence, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2006 from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Marine Sgt. Steven Walton has received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his performance in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2005 to April 2006 in the city of Fallujah. Walton served as a squad leader in the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and led his Marines in more than 100 combat patrols. He also coordinated medical evacuations of marines and civilians.

He is the grandson of Loretta Hendon Walton, who grew up in the Lawrence area, and is the great-nephew of Beverly Ammel, Lawrence.
