Man gets 3 years in dad’s death

? A Stanton County man who shot his father to death after years of abuse was sentenced to three years in prison by a judge who said the son had not been “dealt a fair hand in life.”

Logan Shore, 20, was convicted last month of voluntary manslaughter in the Jan. 21 shooting of Randy Shore, 47, in their rural Stanton County home.

Stanton County District Judge Nels Noel on Thursday gave Shore a sentence shorter than the four years and 11 months that guidelines dictate for voluntary manslaughter. Noel acknowledged that the Shore household was full of violence, chiefly from the elder Shore, but rejected Logan Shore’s claim of self-defense.

Testimony at the trial indicated Logan Shore shot his father after the elder man beat his son, apparently because he was upset that Logan wanted to leave Stanton County.

Richard Ney, Shore’s attorney, said he would appeal.

During last month’s trial, Logan Shore’s attorneys argued that he did not intentionally kill his father. An expert witness testified that Logan Shore suffered post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from years of abuse by his father.

Logan Shore suffered a black eye and other minor injuries from his father’s beating immediately before he shot his father with an AR-15 assault rifle.

Prosecutors, however, argued that the younger Shore intentionally killed his father.
