4-H and FCE news

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club gathered for a Thanksgiving feast as well as its regular monthly meeting Nov. 13.

President Weston Allen called the meeting to order, and Sam Thomas led the club in singing “Turkey Dinner.” Members were reminded to bring their adopt-a-family food to the December meeting; the Bromelsick Christmas party was Dec. 3 at the Community Building at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds and had a carnival theme; another project leader training will be Jan. 11; and those wanting to participate in the gift exchange should bring a wrapped gift worth $3 or less.

County Council representatives Garret Jones and Jennifer Livingood led a discussion about how to pay for the 4-H journals, and Jennifer Livingood made a short presentation about Citizenship Washington Focus, a summer trip to the nation’s capital that is a leadership and citizenship opportunity.

New officers were installed, and members had trail mix for refreshments.

Members recognized for club achievements were Robert Girard, Garret Girard, Sage Myslivy-Dragen, Henry Mitchell, Mathew Stevens, Zack Stevens, Eli Schneck, Karen Schneck, Keeran Jones, Anna McCurdy, Sam Thomas, Tennery Carter, Kate McCurdy, Ryal Mitchell, Peter Pottorff, Addison Jones, Jen Livingood, Patrick Pottorff, Kevin Flanders, Garret Jones, Weston Allen and Erin Ashcraft.

Adult leaders who were recognized were Rhonda Gibler, Deb Girard, Mike Pottorff, Michele Schneck, Amy McCurdy, Jen Mitchell, Annett Ritchie, Susan Thomas, Sue Ashcraft, Amy Jones and Paula Aiken.

The December meeting will be at 7:15 p.m. at the fairgrounds, Building No. 1.

Kanwaka Family and Community Education members and their husbands will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the home of Don and Margaret Fuston for a Christmas party. Members should bring a covered dish and a gift to exchange. Gifts also will be collected for the First Step House.

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at noon Tuesday at the home of Lola Ford for a luncheon. Members should bring a covered dish and their own table service. Donations for a food pantry will be collected.

The India Family and Community Education unit will meet at noon Thursday at the home of Wilma Stone for a Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. Members should bring a covered dish.

The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met Dec. 2 at Clinton Presbyterian Church for a club caroling party. Members went around Clinton delivering fruit baskets and singing carols.

Members answered roll call by naming their favorite Christmas carol. Song leaders Jared Fangman and Adam Spurling sang several carols for the group to practice singing. Parliamentarian Simon Fangman gave a presentation on proper caroling etiquette.

Recreation leaders Maria Penrod and Piper Hubbell announced that no recreation would be given because of the caroling.

Community leader Lanaea Heine announced that the Bromelsick Christmas Party was Dec. 3. She also informed the club that any club days entries would be due Jan. 16.

The Clinton Eagles were recognized at the achievement celebration with many members completing their record books and participating in judging. The club also received a club seal at the celebration.

The club approved doing a skit for club days, and Kim Hubbell volunteered to organize the skit.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at Wakarusa Valley School.
