State-run universities could not ban student groups from using campus facilities for religious purposes and study, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled with an 8-1 vote.

The murder trial involving a 23-year-old Topeka woman would not be moved from Douglas County, District Judge James Paddock ruled. The judge said newspaper and radio reports surrounding the trial of Gwyndolyn McNair, 23, had not damaged her chances for a fair trial here. The victim had been Terry Brown, a 25-year-old Topeka woman killed in rural Douglas County.
