Bring outdoors in for decor update
A fresh look for your home might be as close as your backyard.
Outdoor accessories such as containers, birdbaths, statues and fountains can come indoors to do double decorating duty, says Peter Cilio of Campania International Inc., a manufacturer of garden accessories.
Filling urns or containers with houseplants, dried flowers, interesting branches or other materials is an obvious choice. (For houseplants, use a plastic liner to prevent leaks.) Here are more of Cilio’s ideas:
¢ Let a cast-stone urn stand alone as sculpture. Especially if it’s raised on a pedestal or placed on a table, it can be a dramatic focal point.
¢ Create an edible, economical centerpiece by filling a small birdbath with seasonal fruit or vegetables that are colorful or sculptural, such as peppers or artichokes. Or fill the birdbath with water and float flowers or candles in it. Use a felt coaster underneath to protect your table.
¢ Place a small urn or birdbath in your bathroom to hold soap or towels.
