Tiegreen keys Eagles’ narrow win

? Kristie Tiegreen had 14 points, 18 rebounds and six assists, leading Veritas Christian’s girls basketball team to a 31-29 victory over Topeka Cornerstone on Tuesday.

Veritas raced to a 21-13 halftime lead in its season opener and held on. Besides Tiegreen, Susan Wilson (10 points, six rebounds) had a solid game for the Eagles.

Veritas (1-0) will play Topeka Cair Paravel on Friday.

Topeka – Veritas Christian went cold in the second quarter, and it cost the Eagles.

After trailing by just two points after one quarter of its season opener, Veritas went 0-for-11 in the second quarter and scored just one point.

“The second quarter really killed us,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We just never got back in sync after that.”

Michael Kay led Veritas with 12 points, and Josh Masrud added seven points.

Veritas (0-1) will entertain Topeka Cair Paravel on Friday.
