In addition to the music videos on there, there are tons of other, mostly random stuff on there that was either filmed in Lawrence or has another Lawrence connection.

To help you sort through this multitude of movies, we compiled our own informal “Lawrence YouTube Awards. Here are the winners:

Category: Best Use of Animation

Video Title: “Naked Winter Magic”

What is it: Animated version of Japanese artist Gackt sings a song while standing nude (and censored) on Massachusetts Street.

Category: Best Sports Highlight Reel

Video Title: “Luke Conquers U-Haul”

What is it: A young man named Luke jumps over a U-Haul trailer parked at the Lawrence turnpike stop.

Category: Best Fantasy Video

Video Title: “Dashcam Timelapse, Topeka to Lawrence, Kansas 6-8-06”

What it is: The commute from Topeka to Lawrence is sped up to take only 2 minutes, 18 seconds. If only…

Category: Best Performance by People with Too Much Free Time

Video Title: “Fun With Mirror, November 21, 1992, Lawrence Kansas”

What it is: Video of people under a green light squishing their face against a mirror to make silly faces.

Category: Best Political Documentary

Video Title: “Phelps Counter Protest Lawrence, Kansas, 6-17-06” (several different segments)

What it is: Lawrencians organize a counter protest to one of pastor Fred Phelps’ anti-gay marches in Lawrence.

Category: Best Video Featuring Citrus Juice and Acrobatics

Video Title: “Can You Balance an Orange Minute Made Drink on Your Head?”

What it is: Pretty much what the title suggests – people balancing a drink bottle on their heads. (This is a sequel. The original was “Can You Balance an Orange on Your Head?”)

Category: Best Horror Movie

Video title: “Drive Through South Park”

What it is: No, it’s not a sequel to “The Day After.” It’s the arboreal carnage left in South Park after the microburst in March.

Category: Best Video of Random People Drinking and the Occasional Male Nipple

Video title: “Date with the Night in Lawrence”

What it is: Footage (rated PG-13) of a New Years party in Lawrence, set to a catchy tune by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Video Title: “Burroughs-Zinn House”

What it is: Video of the exterior of the home of one of Lawrence’s most famous former residents, William S. Burroughs.

Category: Best Jayhawk Propaganda

Video Title: “The University of Kansas: A Great Place to Be”

What it is: 30- and 60-second promo videos of KU that have been shown on TV (posted, for the record, by a KU staffer).

Category: Most Boring Film

Video Title: “My New Apartment”

What it is: A room-by-room tour of a student’s new apartment. It’s not even furnished.

Category: Best Performance by an Actress Who’s Probably Really Embarrassed If She’s Reading This

Video title: “HataBlocka”

What it is: Young woman named Ashley dances to hip-hop artist Acafool’s song “HataBlocka” as her videographer friend giggles.

Category: Best Celebrity Cameo

Video title: “Mo Rocca Loves Footage”

What it is: Mo Rocca (formerly of the “The Daily Show”) does a promotional bit for local Footage Productions.

Category: Best Video Featuring a Clown Dancing to an Electric Guitar Being Played By a Man With a KFC Bucket on His Head

Video: “Buckethead Clown”

What it is: A random man dressed as a clown dances to guitarist Buckethead at the Wakarusa Festival.
