From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 28, 1906: “Five more jointists have been caught and run into jail by Marshal Kincaid, Sheriff Woodward and six police men and deputies. All were caught in East Bottoms raids. : Between 25 and 30 linemen, cable-splitters and general telephone helpers went out on strike here today seeking higher wages and shorter hours. Topeka and Kansas City are also affected and telephone service is not available for the most part. : Company H, the hospital corps and the drum corps of the First Regiment, Kansas National Guard, has returned after a week of active duty. As expected, the Lawrence group took off all the honors possible for a unit to gain. They were complimented by the governor who visited them in Topeka.”
