Law enforcement report

¢ Douglas County Sheriff’s officers arrested two men Saturday morning after someone fired shots into a home and, in a subsequent vehicle chase, one man rammed his vehicle into another one.

Residents at 8 a.m. reported shots were fired into the home in the 1200 section of East 1900 Road southeast of Lawrence, said Lt. Kari Wempe, a sheriff spokeswoman. A suspect, later determined to be Jim Riley, 49, Lawrence, had driven away in his vehicle while the home’s occupants pursued him.

Riley told officers that a man, 45-year-old Robert Farmer, Eudora, then intentionally struck his vehicle while he was still inside it in northeastern Douglas County, Wempe said. After an investigation, officers eventually found both men and arrested them with the help of the Kansas Highway Patrol and Eudora Police officers.

Wempe said officers continue to investigate whether the men knew each other, possible motives and other details.

Farmer was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a vehicle, and Riley was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and criminally firing a firearm at an occupied home. According to jail records, both men were free on $2,500 bond Saturday night.
