Former Kansas University standout Les Walrond is back in the major leagues, and will start for the Chicago Cubs today in St. Louis.
Walrond was 10-5 with a 3.98 earned-run average at Triple-A Iowa in 2006, prompting the call-up. It will be his second stint in the big leagues - he appeared in seven games with the Kansas City Royals in 2003, going 0-2 with a 10.13 ERA.
A left-hander, the 29-year old Walrond played at KU from 1996-98 before being drafted by the Cardinals.
Kansas now has two former players on major-league rosters. Southpaw Tom Gorzelanny, who was KU's closer in 2002, now is a starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
