Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 23, 1906: “Mason S. Peters has been chosen by the Democrats to be the Kansas 2nd District candidate for Congress. ‘The district is Republican but I believe I can overcome this,’ he told well-wishers. : One jointist on parole did not appear in court today but the other 12 recent arrestees did and were given leniency for the time being. A warrant was issued for the missing man who knew he had violated his parole and was afraid to show up. : C.E. Costello, the deputy fish and game warden who destroyed many nets and other fishing property belonging to Lawrence people, has been arrested and is being held on a $600 bond. He caused great damage and harm. : A large number of corpses in Elmwood Cemetery in Kansas City were washed from their graves by a heavy rain followed by flooding. It has been a disastrous event.”
