Old Home Town – 25 years ago

The Douglas County district attorney’s office was investigating the use of a chemical repellent to remove pigeons from a North Lawrence grain elevator. The goal was to see if the company hired to get rid of the birds was following state pesticide laws and limits. More than 1,000 dead birds had been found and a group of citizens has risen in protest, asking if humans might be endangered.

There was more work to be done at Lone Star Lake before it could become usable again. Shoreline erosion had to be repaired and silt removed before the lake could be restored to full pull.
