Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan., will serve as the honorary chairman of Republican Chuck Ahner’s campaign for the 3rd congressional district, which includes east Lawrence.

Ahner faces incumbent U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, a Democrat, in the Nov. 7 general election.

“Bob Dole is respected across the political spectrum in Kansas and will help unite the residents of the 3rd District behind my candidacy,” Ahner said.

Dole, a former Republican Senate Majority leader and GOP presidential candidate in 1996, praised Ahner, saying, “Chuck Ahner also has a positive message for the future – he will protect our seniors, improve education for our children and oppose tax increases.”
