Verizon upgrades area equipment

Verizon Wireless didn’t take a vacation this summer when it comes to boosting services in the Lawrence area.

The company added a new cell site serving the Kansas University campus, and another along Interstate 70 at the Douglas-Johnson County line, to go with capacity upgrades at 10 other area locations to boost signal capacity for voice and data, said Cheryl Bini Armbrecht, a Verizon spokeswoman. The new site serving KU is in the area of 18th Street and Naismith Drive.

The changes should result in clearer reception, faster downloads and fewer dropped calls, she said.
