Kansas University announced that trumpeter Al Hirt would be here for a Nov. 5 homecoming show.

A crowd of about 5,000 for the rodeo at the Douglas County Fair was disappointed by the lack of strong competitors and officials hoped for a better slate the second night. Jaycees added some relief in a humorous vein as the huffing, puffing “greenhorns” tried to succeed in a calf-tying event. However, there was evidence that the rodeo would be dropped from the fair format the coming year.

The Red Dog Inn was the latest business to be hit by a rash of burglaries. Police admitted they were baffled by the numerous crimes and said they had few leads.
