Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 21, 1906: “Mayor Keeler returned from a trip to Chicago yesterday and has many good things to say about the city, which he considered beautiful. He was particularly impressed with the electric transportation system in the area and found it something that is well worth creating in Lawrence. The interurban trolley system is especially viable, he said, and should be pursued here. : Every train now, it seems, brings more and more university students into town although it will be three weeks before enrollment begins. Many are coming early to seek fall and winter employment when application lines are not so long. “
