Topeka A longtime educator from Utah has been named as the Kansas director of special education, Education Commissioner Bob Corkins said Thursday.
Colleen Riley, a 23-year teacher and administrator, was most recently principal of Copper Canyon Elementary School in Sandy, Utah.
She has a master's degree in education from the University of Arizona and has worked in special education in Arizona, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Utah.

that's better hiring - but wasn't there anyone from kansas applying for the job. we must have good people - our own former deputy commissioner now works for the federal government's department of education on special education....
