Train ‘quiet zone’ to be considered

State and city leaders will meet with North Lawrence residents today to discuss possible regulations that would allow trains to travel through the neighborhood without blowing their horns.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. today in the city manager’s conference room on the fourth floor of City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

Any new “train horn quiet zone” must receive approval from the Federal Railroad Administration.

The city has invited officials from the Lawrence school district, Laidlaw Transit, Union Pacific Railroad and North Lawrence Improvement Assn. to the meeting, which is open to the public.
