Raiders advance to finals

? The Lawrence Raiders are one victory away from a trip to the American Legion World Series.

The Raiders eliminated Eden Prairie, Minn., 18-7 in seven run-rule-shortened innings, on Sunday to advance to the championship game of the Legion Central Plains regional.

Andy Petz led the Raiders, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Tyler Knight was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.

Three other Lawrence players – Scott Heitshusen, Lorenzo Ricketts and Brian Heere – each contributed two RBIs.

John Sneegas picked up the win in relief of Daniel Green, who ran into trouble in a six-run third.

The Raiders took control early, with seven runs in the first inning, a single run in the second, five runs in the third and three more in the fourth.

Lawrence will face Rapid City, S.D., at 1 p.m. today in the championship game. A second championship game, if the Raiders lose the first, would start at 7 tonight.

Lawrence beat Rapid City, 3-1, on Saturday.
