Prison outreach activist to visit Lawrence

Bo Lozoff, a writer, musician and activist named one of the United States’ top 100 spiritual visionaries by the Utne Reader, will participate in two events next weekend in Lawrence.

Lozoff will give a public talk at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 and will give a concert at 2 p.m. Aug. 20. Both events are at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

Lozoff is the founder of the Human Kindness Foundation, known primarily for its prison outreach work. His most recent book is “It’s a Meaningful Life: It Just Takes Practice.”

Women’s focus group to meet Sunday

Martha & Mary’s Way, an interfaith group that focuses on the spirituality of women, will meet Sunday night to unveil a new name and direction for the group.

The organization will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St.

Sister Irene McGrath and the Rev. Judy Long O’Neal, the organization’s founders, will be among those in attendance. Current directors are the Rev. Vicki Penner and Trish Dowd.
