Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 11, 1906: “Every day, complaints come to the World office about the scarcity of houses here. Of course a somewhat increased demand is expected this time of year but the 1906 rush is unparalleled. As early as the first of July people from all parts of the state began to drive into Lawrence looking over the ground, preparatory to bringing their families to this city in the fall for school purposes. : When the Congregational people go back to their own church the first of September it will be almost the same as moving into entirely new quarters.”
