NU tapped No. 1 in volleyball

Nebraska is the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 Conference volleyball title for the 10th consecutive season in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

The Huskers received eight of the 11 possible first-place votes and 98 points overall. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Texas was second with 93 points, including three first-place votes. The Longhorns were followed by Missouri, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Colorado.

Kansas was seventh, followed by Iowa State, Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Oklahoma State does not field a team.

KU’s Natalie Uhart, a transfer from Long Beach State, was tapped preseason newcomer of the year. KU junior Emily Brown, a 6-2 Baldwin High product, was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team.
