Twin Mounds Grade School closed its doors after a basket dinner and program attended by about 130. It was the last remaining one-room school in Douglas County.

City leaders were back from a tour of Grand Junction, Colo., where the downtown redevelopment project was judged to be of interest to people hoping to do something similar in Lawrence. The local people seemed favorably impressed and said they had picked up some “helpful pointers.”
