Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 2, 1906: “The use of natural gas here has had a good deal to do with reducing the fire risks in this town. : There seldom has been a worse time for chiggers locally than this summer. Many an outdoor event has been shortened or even canceled by the onslaught of the pests. : Preliminary plans for the Old Settlers and Old Home Week Oct. 1-5 look promising and this year’s event should be even better than that of the past fall. : The Shoshone Indian reservation lands will be open to settlement Aug. 15. Many attractive homesteads will be available and railroad officials have details about how to act.”
