Warm, sunny afternoon ahead

Storm system moving in Friday through weekend

Lawrence was getting off to a cold start, but temperatures will be soaring today into the 70s with lots of sunshine, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We have a beautiful spring morning in progress,” Schack said. “Soak it up because the sun won’t return for a couple of days.”

At 7:10 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 36 degrees, the humidity was 92 percent and winds were calm. There was some patchy fog in low-lying areas, she said. The average low temperature for this date is 50 degrees. The record low was 31 degrees, set in 1920.

By noon, Lawrence’s temperature will climb to 64 degrees and sunshine will last through the afternoon, Schack said. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 12 mph.

The average high temperature for this date is 71 degrees. The record high was 93 degrees, set in 1989.

Today’s high temperature will climb to 73 degrees by late afternoon, Schack said.

“You’ll want to get out and take advantage of it because clouds will return tonight,” Schack said.

And those clouds will bring the chance of rain and thunderstorms by Friday afternoon, she said

Friday’s morning low temperature will be 50 degrees, climbing to a high of 63 degrees on Friday afternoon, Schack said.

Rain is likely again on Saturday, she said. Saturday’s morning low will be 52 degrees, climbing to a high of 60 degrees by Saturday afternoon, she said.
