County may hire writing coach

Writing coaches interested in taking a temporary job with the Douglas County government might want to start dusting off their resumes.

Commissioners Bob Johnson and Charles Jones said Wednesday night that they consideration should be given to hiring a writing coach to work with county employees and go over documents.

While the commissioners emphasized that the county has good employees, they also said those who are writing key documents and memos could use some fine-tuning on their writing skills. They said they would like to see clearer writing of those documents.

“Our shoe will be polished as we step out the door,” was the way Johnson described the results of clearer writing. “It makes the county look good.”

Commissioners made no decisions and referred the matter for later discussion. They said such a job probably would last no more than six months to a year.
