College students to go to Russia for conference
Three Haskell Indian Nations University students and a Kansas University student will be in Russia next month to add an American Indian perspective to a conference on nuclear waste.
The trip is sponsored by Sustainable Development and Ecological Education Center, a nonprofit group in Kiev.
The Haskell students – Becky Begay, Tiffany Tsosie and Abigail Estes – will take part in a discussion on issues that involve radioactive waste and Indian reservations. They will be joined by Heidi Mehl, a KU student majoring in Indigenous Nations Studies.
