Storm damage prevented Sunflower Broadband subscribers from being able to watch programming on Topeka’s ABC affiliate late Sunday night and into Monday morning, a Sunflower official said.

The antenna that receives KTKA-TV’s signal from Topeka (Sunflower Broadband channel 12) was damaged by wind or hail during the storm, said Patrick Knorr, general manager for Sunflower Broadband.

The damage prevented the station’s signal from being distributed through Sunflower’s cable lines beginning shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, and lasting until temporary repairs were in place by about 9:30 a.m. Monday, Knorr said.

While the signal has been restored, Knorr said, its quality will remain impaired until permanent repairs are in place, a process that could take several days.

Sunflower provides cable-television service in Lawrence and several area communities. Sunflower is owned by The World Company, which also owns the Journal-World.

KTKA’s owner is Lawrence-based Free State Communications LLC, which is owned primarily by The World Company and by individuals involved in The World Company’s operations and management.
