Dragonflies win 1-0

In the last game of the afternoon, the Dragonflies and Wizards fought each other as a storm rolled into Lawrence darkening the skies at Youth Sports Inc. A tough defensive contest, neither team had many breaks on the offensive side of the ball excpet for one brief moment in the first half when the Dragonflies found the back of the net which would be good enough for a 1-0 victory.

Dragonfly forward Cheyenne Plaster received an unexpected assist from a Wizards defender and was able to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper for the only score of the game.

“We played tough,” Plaster said. “We almost ran out of energy but stuck with it for the game.

The second half returned to a defensive contest, with the few opportunities on goal for both teams seeming to go just wide of the posts every time. After the game the Wizards players and coach weren’t disappointed in the outcome, but stood firm on their decision not to help out the opposing team during the next game.

Grace Morgan and Zoe Fincher agreed that the Wizards had room to improve but that they still had fun and tried their hardest when out on the field.

“We tried hard and were good at yelling and communicating on the field,” Morgan said. “What we need to do is work on spreading out and not passing to the other team.

If they accomplish those things, the Wizards will be a force to watch for at Youth Sports Inc. but the Dragonflies will probably have a thing or two to say in the matter when they face each other again.
