Cooler temperatures move in

Say goodbye to the hot weather for a while – a cold front blustered in overnight, bringing cooler weather back to Lawrence.

“You might want to grab a coat. The wind chill is in the 30s,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “I do think we’ll stay chilly throughout the morning.”

At 7 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 40 degrees, the humidity was 73 percent and winds were from the northwest at 6 mph, making the windchill 36 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 47 degrees. The record low was 30 degrees, set in 1953.

Schack said Lawrence will have sunny skies today and westerly winds 10 to 20 mph, with the temperature climbing to 70 degrees by late this afternoon. The average high temperature for this date is 69 degrees. The record high was 91 degrees, set in 1987.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 40 degrees by early Thursday morning. Thursday’s high temperature will be 72 degrees, with sunny skies, Schack said.
