Lawrence has the chance for some severe weather this afternoon - but most of the activity will be to the east, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
"We have an isolated chance for a thunderstorm, with warm temperatures topping out in the low 80s," Schack said.
Schack said a cold front will be moving in this afternoon, bringing in some clouds. Most of the severe weather will develop to the east in northwest Missouri, she said.
Today's high will climb to 81 degrees, she said. Winds will be from the southeast at 10 to 20 mph, she said. The average high temperature for this date is 68 degrees. The record high was 89 degrees, set in 1981.
At 7 a.m., Lawrence's temperature was 57 degrees, the humidity was 81 percent and winds were from the east at 12 mph.
This morning's low was 56 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 47 degrees. The record low was 29 degrees, set in 1953.
"The temperature on Wednesday will top out just about average," Schack said.
Wednesday's morning low will be 46 degrees, climbing to a high of 67 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, with northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph, Schack said. Skies will be partly cloudy, she said.
Thursday's morning low will be 45 degrees, climbing to a high of 67 degrees on Thursday afternoon, with partly cloudy skies, she said.
