From the Lawrence Daily World for April 17, 1906: “The Baker Methodist baseball team defeated the Haskell Indian team 5-4 yesterday at the Haskell grounds. Witnesses called it one of the best games they ever had seen. : Judge Ansel Clark, candidate for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, is against public officials having free passes on railroads and has returned the one he has held for a while. He says is not against railroads, just influence with free passes. : Entries are being received for the state high school track meet at McCook field the coming weekend. : A dispatch from Springfield, Mo., says five men have been arrested and charged with murder in the first degree due to the lynching and burning of three Negroes recently. It appears the victims were guilty of nothing.”
